Use * for multiplication (e.g. 2*x). Powers use ^ (e.g. x^2). Functions include sin, cos, tan, sqrt, abs, log, exp.
Cubic polynomials add enough flexibility for an “S” shape: local max and min may appear, and the graph can cross the x-axis up to three times.
Plotting makes end behavior obvious: for large |x|, the leading term dominates. Small changes near the middle reveal subtle wiggles.
