What expression syntax is supported?

Use x as the variable, explicit multiplication (2*x), parentheses, and common functions. Powers use ^ (for example x^3). Constants pi and e are available where the parser supports them.

Why did my expression fail to plot?

Most errors come from missing * between factors, mismatched parentheses, or unsupported variables (only x is allowed in this plotter).

When a second curve appears on topic pages, is it always mathematically paired with my function?

Companion curves illustrate the default example on that page. If you change the main function, the second curve may be hidden so the display is not misleading.
